Utility reaches new heights

Feb. 17, 2020
Family-owned trailer manufacturer breaks 4-year-old company record with nearly 52,000 trailers produced in 2019.

Utility Trailer has been turning out trailers for more than 100 years.

It never made more than in 2019.

The trailer manufacturer says it set a new company record last year, producing nearly 52,000 trailers, which shattered the previous record of approximately 49,000 trailers made in 2015.

The total included dry vans, flatbeds and Utility’s signature refrigerated trailers, the industry’s most popular reefers. Utility has been the top-selling reefer manufacturer since 1994 and currently owns a 50% market share.

“2019 was truly a great year for us and a great start to a new decade,” said Craig Bennett, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Utility. “As a family-company producing trailers since 1914, we are proud of our achievements throughout the years.

“We are continuing to increase production capacity at our manufacturing facilities in order to meet the increasing demands of our trailers.”

Utility currently operates six trailer manufacturing facilities across North America.

Its 3000R and the 3000R multi-temp refrigerated trailers are manufactured at the Marion VA, Clearfield UT and Piedras Negras, Mexico plants. The 4000D-X Composite series and 4000D dry vans are manufactured at the Glade Spring VA and Paragould AR plants. The 4000AE, 4000S, and 4000AE Drop Deck flatbeds, as well as the Tautliner, all are manufactured in Enterprise AL.
