FleetOwner is gearing up for a new look

May 19, 2021
The July issue of FleetOwner will launch a redesign to create a more streamlined organization of sections for readers and to keep up with the ever-evolving commercial trucking industry.

The trucking industry is—and always will be—on a constant path of evolution. Just in the first half of 2021, FleetOwner editors have written about advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), connected vehicles, commercial electric vehicles (CEVs) and charging infrastructure (or the current lack thereof), a self-driving future, machine learning, artificial intelligence, the digitization of freight logistics, data-based tire management, remote communications strategies and contactless workflows, telematics advancements, and idle reduction technologies—and this isn’t even an exhaustive list.

As I write this editor’s note, we just wrapped up our group’s virtual Commercial Vehicle Technology Conference, or CV Tech, which included details on the current state of zero-emission vehicle technologies, smart trailer technology, fleet optimization through telematics, and introduced our North American Fleet Research report on the current fleet adoption expectations of CEVs.

Despite the impacts from COVID-19 and the challenges we’ve all had to endure over the last year, the start of this decade has already proven to be an incredibly exciting time in the trucking industry—and for Endeavor’s Commercial Vehicle Group. And while the industry continues to advance, FleetOwner is proud to be evolving right along with it.

Coming in July, FleetOwner magazine will have a new look and a new logo. We are launching our newly redesigned magazine that provides readers with a clearer, more streamlined organization of sections. Our main sections will be organized by Safety & Operations, Equipment, and Technology. We have been working hard to deliver more eye-catching designs for our feature story layouts, and we are looking forward to offering you, the reader, even more industry perspectives.

The very first issue of FleetOwner was published in 1928. In its 93-year-history, FleetOwner has had various parent companies and has been through its fair share of changes, updates, and redesigns. Although we will look different when you see us again, our top priority will remain. That is providing useful information for the executives who run truck fleets and to be a vital resource as the industry continues to follow changing regulations; widescale adoption of electric trucks; new equipment procurement strategies; automation; driver compensation, wellness, and safety; cyber threats; and much more.

Under our parent company Endeavor Business Media, in the past year and a half, FleetOwner has reaped the benefits of being part of a comprehensive Commercial Vehicle Group. Working collaboratively with our sibling publications—Fleet Maintenance, Trailer-Body Builders, Bulk Transporter, Refrigerated Transporter, and, of course, American Trucker—has made us better equipped than ever to cover all aspects of the CV industry for our readers.

To better align with the new structure of the magazine and the changing needs in the industry, we are also reworking the web channels on FleetOwner.com. And now that I feel I have truly found my home here, this summer I will follow the footsteps of FleetOwner editors before me with regular blog posts on our website.

This redesign process has been in the works for several months. I would be remiss not to acknowledge our incredibly talented art directors Vilma Alvarez and Erin Brown for the countless hours they put in to make this redesign happen. Our editorial staff also deserves credit for overcoming many hurdles over the past year but still managing to grow stronger as a team.

We are looking forward to covering all the exciting developments to come for the commercial trucking industry. And, as always, we appreciate feedback from our valued readers and industry stakeholders. We hope you will love our new look as much as we do.
