Hale Trailer Brake & Wheel has compiled a list of its top 15 truck stops in the United States, which can be viewed by clicking through the gallery above.
“As a driver, we understand you must think of logistics while navigating on the road,” according to the company's website. “Knowing where to stop and refuel, or even where you can get your truck repaired, makes for a good trip experience. With the list we compiled we’ll show you the notable spots comprised of some of the best truck stops in America and the mom-and-pop shops ready to welcome you.”
Scoring methodology
Each score is based on a five-star ranking with the overall rank being devised of four categories and a bonus category:
Online Review Score—This data was compiled from the average truck stop review data from Yelp, Google, and TripAdvisor.
National Monument Vicinity Score—Data was pulled from Google Maps to identify the total number of national parks and monuments in a 20-mile radius to determine activity scores.
Food Offering Score
1—Only processed, shelf-stable snacks and drinks
2—Fresh plus processed food
3—Including everything from 1 & 2 plus 1 fast-food/chain restaurant
4—Including everything from 1-3 plus 2 fast-food/chain restaurant
5—Including everything from 1-4 plus 1 independent restaurant
Amenity Offering Score
1—Only public bathrooms
3—24-hour showers plus truck wash
5—Everything from 1-4, plus laundromat, gym, movie theater, attached hotel, Wi-Fi, etc.
Unique Attraction Bonus Score—This is a bonus category that can add up to 1 point to the total score. This score is based on any unique experiences that a truck stop may offer.
