Diesel finishes June with another price dip

For the fifth week in a row, diesel prices across the U.S have slipped, according to data tracked by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The average U.S. retail pump price for diesel was down 1.6 cents in the June 29 report, to $2.843 per gallon.

The average U.S. retail pump price for diesel was down 1.6 cents in the June 29 report, to $2.843 per gallon. That’s about $1.08 per gallon cheaper than this time last year.

Diesel prices decreased in every region, led by the West Coast where it fell 2.9 cents. California still has the highest average price in the lower 48 states, however, at $3.141. The Central Atlantic and New England are also still reporting diesel above the $3 mark, at $3.094 and $3.071, respectively.

The price of a gallon of diesel dipped 2.5 cents the Gulf Coast, a large enough decrease to get past the Midwest for the lowest diesel prices in the country at $2.73, compared to $2.731. The Rocky Mountain region saw prices fall 2.3 cents to a $2.776 average.
