Less-than-truckload carrier XPO has hired Dave Bates as chief operating officer of North American LTL, effective April 21, 2023.
Bates joins XPO after 27 years with Old Dominion Freight Line (No. 10 on the FleetOwner 500 For-Hire carriers), where he was responsible for all day-to-day operations in North America for the last 12 years as senior vice president of operations. He started his career with roles at Carolina Freight Carriers and Roadway Express.
Bates is not the first Old Dominion alumnus brought into the company, with Old Dominion's former chief financial officer J. Wes Frye serving on its board of directors.

Mario Harik, CEO of XPO Logistics (No. 12 on the FleetOwner 500 For-Hire), said in a press release, “Dave is a high-impact executive with a strong track record of driving excellence in all aspects of LTL operations.
