Combining a fiber-optic cable with a radio tag, a new Savi Technology SmartSeal is designed to secure non-standard freight carriers including pallets, roll cages and air-freight containers.
Similar to other Savi electronic seals for intermodal cargo containers, the newest SmartSeal features an adjustable length fiber-optics cable that can be looped around tarps, nets and other tie-down devices. The system's RF (radio frequency) tag will issue automatic alerts to stationary readers if the seal is tampered with or if the container deviates from its planned route. The alerts can then be transmitted over networks using the Web-based Savi Asset Management System.
The new electronic cable seal can also be tied to the company's electronic bolt seals for trailers and intermodal containers for an added level of security, according to Savi.
