Beginning tonight through Friday, July 29, crews will close one lane of northbound I-5 in Washington state between just north of SR 11 and Nulle Road.
The closure, expected to occur between 7 p.m. through 10 a.m. local time, is part of a summer-long paving project, according to the Washington State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT). They advise truckers and others to expect significant delays, especially between 2 and 6 p.m. daily.
WSDOT says the work is necessary because “large cracks are appearing along 12 mi. of northbound I-5 between Burlington and Bellingham (specifically, between mileposts 232 and 244). There are old concrete panels beneath the asphalt that are causing the pavement to crack and separate. The concrete panels date back to when the interstate was first built in the 1960’s.”
