Des Moines, IA-based Ruan Transportation Management Systems is planning to buy Tulare, CA-based food carrier Kings County Truck Lines and related subsidiaries as Ruan seeks to expand its presence both in the food logistics business and on the West Coast.

“With more than 70 years experience in transportation and logistics, we believe we can add value to the long history of outstanding performance that Kings County has provided to its customers,” said Mike Kandris, Ruan president.

The deal, for 100% of the outstanding stock in Kings County, includes its affiliates Cal Western Transport, Inc., Fluid Transport, Inc., California Milk Transport, Inc., and MSM Trucking, LLC.

Kings County operates 12 terminals in California, Oregon, Arizona and Idaho and employs approximately 600 people, Ruan said. Terms weren’t disclosed, but both companies hope to have the transaction completed by the end of the year.
