FedEx Freight, the $3.2-billion LTL arm of Memphis, TN-based express carrier FedEx, is expanding its national terminal network with the additional of five new service centers.

To improve coverage in the Northeast, FedEx Freight opened a new 22,000-sq. ft. service center in New Haven, CT, that replaces an 18,000-sq. ft. facility. Equipped with 49 doors (19 more than the previous building), the new center is located on four acres near Interstate 95. The center provides service to the southern region of Connecticut and parts of New York and Rhode Island.

In Avon, MA, a 32-door center on three acres replaces a 20-door facility, with the new terminal offering 16,000 square feet of office, dock and shop space, making it almost 30% percent larger than its previous building. The center, situated near State Route 24, serves customers in Boston, the surrounding metropolitan area and other locations throughout Massachusetts.

The carrier also opened a new 16,000-sq. ft. service center in Grand Rapids, MI, on a 4.8-acre site near Interstate 96, equipped with 48 doors. It covers the Grand Rapids metropolitan area, Lakeshore and western Michigan.

Also, a newly constructed 36-door, 17,000 sq. ft. terminal on six acres near Staunton, VA, replaces an older 10-door center. It is located near the intersection of Interstates 64 and 81 and serves the Charlottesville and Harrisonburg areas, and the eastern portion of West Virginia.

Finally, a new 17-door Wilmington, NC, center replaces a 10-door center in nearby Leland. Located on a five-acre parcel close to Interstate 40, the facility has 6,000 sq ft of office and dock space. The center provides FedEx Freight services to the Wilmington metropolitan area and the southeastern portion of North Carolina.
