Vertex Interactive, a supply chain software maker, has introduced eTMS, a transportation management system that is Internet-based and can manage multiple carriers from one centralized server.

Vertex is marketing the software in partnership with Pitney Bowes Distribution Solutions, a division of office mail and messaging systems maker Pitney Bowes, which is based in Stamford, CT.

Vertex said its eTMS software manages the transportation connections that link multiple warehouses and distribution centers from a centralized computer server, while permitting access and distributed processing over the Internet from any remote location. By centralizing the system, eTMS saves money and reduces shipping and operating costs for companies with more than one warehouse or distribution center, Vertex said.

By maintaining business rules, carrier rates and shipping settings at one location, users can set guidelines on an enterprise-wide basis or customize guidelines for each location, said Vertex. The software supports small package, LTL, truckload and local carriers, the firm added.
