The Department of Transportation (DOT) is requesting comments on its proposal to prohibit flammable liquids from being transported in unprotected piping on cargo tank motor vehicles. This rule would apply if the tanker has not been spec’d with federal accident protection requirements or bottom damage protection requirements.
The rule would reduce the number of fatalities and injuries caused by accidents that involve unprotected wetlines, DOT said.
The proposal was published in the Federal Register today on Dec. 30, 2004 [RIN 2137-AD36].
