The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has named Fujikura Ltd. as a preferred supplier of sensor microchips for low-pressure warning systems. The chips will be used in tires for pressure monitoring warning systems being developed by Goodyear and Siemens VDO Automotive Corp.
"Goodyear and Fujikura have been developing these chips since the mid-1990s with great success and we are pleased to announce that Fujikura is now a preferred supplier," said Goodyear senior vp for technology and global products planning Joe Gingo.
The Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act requires that all new automobiles and light trucks beginning with the 2004 model year have a system to alert the driver to low air pressure in one or more tires.
