Governor Edward Rendell is now temporarily waiving for 90 days Pennsylvania state regulations governing the transport of oversized loads
After giving petroleum fleets a temporary waiver from the 11-hour drive time limit under the current hours of service (HOS) rules to help speed up deliveries of gasoline and diesel fuel, Governor Edward Rendell is now temporarily waiving for 90 days Pennsylvania state regulations governing the transport of oversized loads to expedite shipments of manufactured homes to help persons left homeless by Hurricane Katrina.
“We continue to take action to help our fellow Americans who have been devastated by the impact of this natural disaster,” Governor Rendell said. “Our efforts are designed to help them put their lives back together.”
Working with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation and the Pennsylvania State Police, the Governor’s office has disseminated notice of this waiver to law enforcement and other authorities across the state. The limited waiver applies only to government contractors transporting manufactured housing for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and allows oversize loads up to 14 feet wide to move unescorted at any time. The loads and their trailers must be well lighted front and back and along both sides when being transported at night.
