The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree's 4,000-mile journey from the Tongass National Forest in Alaska to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building recently came to an end. For the 11th year in a row, Kenworth supplied the tour with a truck: this year, a T680 with a festive wrap featuring Alaska’s Tongass and Chugach National Forests.
The tree was transported by the Alaskan-based carrier Lynden. Drivers Fred Austin and John Schank had the honor of transporting the tree. Both Austin and Schank have worked for Lynden since 1975 with over 10 million accident-free miles. Schank previously transported the 2015 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.
On its journey to the U.S. Capitol Building, the tree made a total of 13 stops in 11 states. This year, the tree was available to be tracked by the public using an interactive map. Now in D.C., the tree awaits the lighting ceremony on December 3.
