J.B. Hunt acquires Mass Movement, expanding final-mile services

Dec. 1, 2020
In addition to multiple leadership changes, this is the fourth acquisition to expand the company’s final mile services since 2017.

J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. announced it acquired the assets of Mass Movement Inc. on Nov. 30, and a week earlier, the company announced several leadership changes that take effect on Dec. 1.

“Mass Movement presents an opportunity to expand our expertise in the final-mile delivery of big and bulky products,” said J.B. Hunt President and CEO John Roberts. “The acquisition complements our current service and will enhance our ability to meet the growing demand of customers in the commercial health and fitness industry.”

Mass Movement, founded by Dom Simonetti and Jim Sullivan in 1996, has more than 20 years of experience providing logistics, delivery, assembly, and installation services for the commercial fitness industry and finished 2019 with $29 million of revenue. Both founders will become employees of J.B. Hunt and will continue in leadership roles as the company expands its fitness equipment delivery business.

As a part of the company’s shift, five J.B. Hunt employees will assume the following positions.:

  • John Kuhlow has been named chief financial officer
  • Nick Hobbs, continuing his duties as president of contract services (Dedicated Contract Services & Final Mile Services), has been named chief operating officer
  • Shelley Simpson, continuing her duties as chief commercial officer will add to her responsibilities: international services, corporate marketing and has also been named executive vice president of people and human resources
  • Craig Harper has been named chief sustainability officer
  • Brad Hicks has been named president of highway services

“During the past eight months, we have not only been dealing with our response to the challenges presented by COVID-19, we have also been moving forward with important leadership decisions,” said Roberts. “These changes best address the opportunities we see in many areas of the company and we believe set us up to head into 2021 and the future with the right people focused on the right things.”
