The wife and adult daughter of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) were involved in a serious vehicle accident in Washington, DC, late Thursday morning.
According to numerous news sources, Landra Reid, the senator's wife, and Lana, his daughter, were both injured when a semi-truck rear-ended their car. Landra Reid suffered a broken neck, broken back and broken nose and Lana Reid sustained a neck injury and facial lacerations. Both Mrs. Reid and daughter Lana were reported to be conscious following the accident. Neither is expected to require surgery.
Virginia State Police said that Mrs. Reid and her daughter were traveling northbound on I-95 in stop-and-go traffic when their Honda Odyssey was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer loaded with rolls of plastic. The impact allegedly forced the Reid family's minivan to rear-end a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which, in turn, struck a Chevrolet Cobalt. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Alan W. Snader, 59, of Ohio, was charged with reckless driving, according to initial reports. News wire services, blogs and other online sites are being flooded with messages of support for the Reid family from the trucking community and the general public.
