The shortage of certified mechanic/technicians needed to properly maintain commercial vehicles impacts all corners of trucking and is severe enough to bear attacking from several angles, including boosting recognition for these skilled workers. That’s the tack Hino Trucks is taking with their newly launched National Service Skills Competition.
The truck OEM recently held the first such competition at its Novi, MI training facility, bringing together Hino dealer service technicians from across the country who have achieved its Master Elite Technician designation to compete head-to-head in various simulated service situations.
The Master Elite Technician designation represents the highest certification a Hino truck technician can attain—to gain it, techs must successfully complete 14 Hino training courses and all six Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium/Heavy Duty Truck test series certifications.
“Our service technicians are the best in the truck business,” stated George Daniels, vp-- service operations. “Proper training gives the Hino technician the ‘Fix it Right the First Time’ attitude and our new 16,950 sq. ft. state-of-the art training facility next to our headquarters provides us the opportunity to expand our training offerings. Overall, the Hino program for the Professional Hino Technician goes beyond standard technical training and is matched by no other OEM in the United States.”
