The Evans Network of Companies is acquiring the container drayage, domestic truckload, and brokerage assets of two trucking firms: Land Transportation plus Phoenix Transit and Logistics. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Schuylkill Haven, PA–based Evans noted that a total of 25 new agent partners and 250 independent drivers will be added to its network via this double acquisition, increasing the number of Evans' service center locations to more than 100 across the U.S. “By entering new areas and expanding our capacity, we’ll be in the position to offer more services to our customers,” said Albert ‘Bert’ Evans, Jr., Evans’ president & CEO.

The company said the newly added fleets will be integrated into Evans Network's national environmental initiative, Export Coordination/Optimization-Match or “ECO-Match,” which seeks to make more productive use of resources by matching import and export shipments handled by its truckers to benefit the driver, customer and environment.

Also, the independent contractors' power equipment from Land Transportation plus Phoenix Transit and Logistics will enter Evans’ retrofit program, whereby diesel multistage filters (DMF) and diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC) are installed on contracted equipment serving the ports of Virginia. A similar program launches at the Port of Charleston, SC, in November. Evans noted that funding by the ports and environmental agencies, along with its own matching funds, ensures the independent contractor doesn't incur any costs.
