Aljex Software CEO Tom Heine announced that Mark Weiss has joined the company as vice president of business development. Aljex is a provider of Internet-based transportation management software (TMS) for brokers, carriers, and third-party logistics companies.Weiss formerly served as chief operating officer for Florida-based Sunteck Holdings, parent of full-service transportation provider Sunteck Transport. Weiss began with start-up Sunteck as national account executive in 2000. He was named executive vice president and finally CFO, the company said. According to Aljex, Weiss developed an independent agent network that helped grow Sunteck into a publicly traded corporation with gross revenues of over $300 million."Mark understands freight transportation from the bottom up,” Heine said. “He knows exactly what our customers need to do and how to help them do it. We're proud and pleased to have Mark on the Aljex team.”Weiss is the second top executive to join Aljex recently. Former DAT Services president Tim Bickmore came onboard last month as vice president of corporate strategy. According to the company, both appointments follow a year of growth in which Aljex opened a software development office in the technology hub of Boulder, CO, and hired programmers to augment its existing group.Aljex noted that it uses what it calls Crowd Improvement to describe how the company adds customer requested refinements to its hosted software.
