Schneider salutes drivers with Consecutive Safe Driving Awards

Oct. 30, 2015
Company recognizes 151 drivers for miles of safe driving

Last year, Schneider drivers drove enough safe (accident free) miles to go to the moon and back – 3,496 times, the company said. Schneider recently awarded 151 of its professional drivers with Consecutive Safe Driving Years Awards.

Drivers who have achieved decades of consecutive safe driving have done so without a single accident or safety infraction. This year that includes:

  • 88 drivers who have at least 10 years of consecutive safe driving at Schneider

  • 48 drivers who have at least 15 years of consecutive safe driving at Schneider

  • Nine drivers who have at least 20 years of consecutive safe driving at Schneider

  • Five drivers who have at least 25 years of consecutive safe driving at Schneider

  • One driver with an incredible 30 years of consecutive safe driving at Schneider

That equates to 1,935 total years of consecutive safe driving recognized in 2014 alone, the company noted.

Thirty-year Consecutive Safe Driving Years Award recipient and Schneider intermodal driver Ernest Wylds associates his driving record with making wiser driving decisions as he’s progressed throughout his career.

“The longer you drive, the more you learn and the less aggressive you become on the road,” Wylds said. “If I’m not 100% sure I did something correctly, like a drop and hook connection, I double check it. I’m constantly aware.”

Wylds also noted that staying with Schneider has been valuable in keeping him safe on the road. “I value my career, so I take fewer risks,” he said. “And staying with the same company for decades means I know the policies, the procedures and the equipment really well. Those who jump from job to job don’t have that expertise.”

The Consecutive Safe Driving Years Award recipients are honored at an annual banquet and receive a patch, plaque and decal to display on their tractors. Additionally, the names of those who achieve 20 consecutive safe driving years are recognized in the Schneider Haul of Fame, a prominent wall at the company’s corporate headquarters in Green Bay, Wis.

“Our Consecutive Years Safe Driving Award winners live and breathe our number one core value of ‘Safety First and Always,’” said Todd Jadin, vice president. “The incredible number of company drivers recognized for accomplishing so many accident-free decades is a true testament to that.”
