Mitchell 1 adds fleet management, VMRS code features

Sept. 14, 2021
Mitchell 1 adds VMRS codes to TruckSeries suite to help service providers diagnose and repair medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

CLEVELAND, Ohio—Mitchell 1 has added vehicle maintenance standards (VMRS) codes to its TruckSeries suite of truck repair software solutions. The suite of web-based products for the medium- and heavy-duty trucking segments aims to help service providers estimate labor times, diagnose, and repair all makes of Class 4 to 8 trucks.

Building on the recent addition of VMRS codes in its TruckSeries truck repair software, the latest upgrade to Mitchell 1’s Manager SE Truck Edition increases a service provider’s capability to integrate and communicate with their fleet customers, the company announced during the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2021 fall meeting.

With integration to Manager SE Truck Edition (and Manager SE), fleets requiring service on their vehicles can send requests to a service provider directly from their fleet management system to Mitchell 1’s shop management system.

“Without picking up a phone, the service provider can accept the work, share estimates, get approvals and get paid by the fleet,” the company stated. “The final record of the repair is shared with the fleet management system, so the vehicle’s service history is maintained there as well as at the servicing shop.

Real-world integration

FleetNet America is the first fleet management system to announce integration to Manager SE Truck Edition.

“At FleetNet America we are committed to reducing asset downtime and ensuring payloads reach their destinations on schedule,” said Don Doty, vice president of roadside operations at FleetNet. “This can be a challenge when managing hundreds of thousands of assets and coordinating maintenance and repairs across over tens of thousands of service providers.”

Manager SE Truck Edition is designed to work in tandem with TruckSeries, Mitchell 1’s truck repair information software suite for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

Repair facilities using the Quotes Module in TruckSeries will be able to map labor jobs to VMRS codes, giving the vehicle owner a clear and consistent record of repairs and overall costs for each truck in operation. VMRS codes display automatically, eliminating the process of manually looking up the appropriate VMRS code for work in progress. TruckSeries presents the appropriate VMRS standardized codes as the quote is generated. Any fleet or shop management system that is VMRS-compliant will recognize the work associated with the code and record the work accordingly.

“VMRS is an invaluable system but it can be overwhelming to technicians because of the coding complexities that enable the detailed reporting,” said Ben Johnson, director of product management for Mitchell 1. “We’ve stripped out the manual part to make the system easier to use.”

With a detailed component repair history based on the VMRS coding system, fleets can evaluate the lifecycle costs of their vehicles and make decisions to help minimize downtime, the company stated.
