“Behind every wheel is a personal story that conveys a driver’s connection with their vehicle.” – Mitchell Jawitz, vice president with the Hartford Financial Services Group
There’s a new contest out there that aims to find the most compelling “behind the wheel” story from America’s many different drivers – and some serious prizes are on the line, including a brand-new Chevrolet Equinox SUV.
The Hartford Financial Services Group came up with this contest as a way to commemorate its 200th anniversary, dubbing it The Hartford 200 program (now THERE is a surprise … not!)
Now through June 15, people who feel like they live in their car, whether driving 200 miles per month, or even 200 miles per day, are encouraged to submit their stories to www.TheHartford200.com.
The best one wins a grand prize package that the aforementioned Chevy Equinox, a hometown visit from the Hartford-sponsored NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer, a VIP race experience, and recognition in a special print advertisement in their hometown, while the four runner-ups receive a $200 gas card and a signed memorabilia package.

In addition to a short written essay, entries may include photography and video – from which five finalists will be chosen and consumers will be asked to vote on who they think has the best story.
The finalists will be selected by a combination of consumer vote and a blue ribbon panel comprised of Richard Childress Racing drivers Bowyer and veteran Jeff Burton, team owner Richard Childress and The Hartford executives.
[For fun, check out the short clip of that world-famous truck driver “The Rooster” applying the jake brake on the 475 hp Caterpillar powering his 2004 Peterbilt 379 in a tunnel . You won’t see this kinda story in The Hartford 200 pool on entries, I assure you … and too bad!]
“The Hartford understands that millions of Americans have deep connections with their cars, whether it’s taking their kids to soccer practice, driving long-distance for their job to support their family or hitting the open road for fun,” said Mitchell Jawitz, the company’s vice president.
“We believe this contest recognizes every day people with extraordinary stories of how their car helps keep their lives moving forward uninterrupted,” he added.
