National Beef wins commissary contract

The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) has awarded a $33.9 million contract to National Beef Packing Co LLC.

The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) has awarded a $33.9 million contract to National Beef Packing Co LLC, a unit of US Premium Beef, to supply fresh and frozen beef for resale to 32 commissary stores in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.

This contract, which runs from Oct 6, 2006, through Oct 31, 2007, includes two one-year option periods. It was issued by DeCA's resale contracting division in Fort Lee VA.

Kansas City-based National Beef also recently started operations in its new Moultrie GA facility addition. This $4.5 million expansion has created 110 jobs, which boosts the Moultrie workforce to 575 employees.

Besides Moultrie, National Beef has operations in Brawley CA; Hummel’s Wharf PA; and Kansas City, Liberal, and Dodge City KS.
