Wegmans picks Prescient for replenishing

Wegmans has selected Prescient Applied Intelligence Inc to power its replenishment ordering. The company will use Prescient’s Demand Planning and Inventory and Replenishment Planning modules to generate orders for about 800 vendors.

Wegmans is a family-owned, 71-store grocery chain in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. In 2004, the company implemented Prescient’s on-demand replenishment program to generate orders for 200 of its vendors.

As Wegmans expanded south from Rochester NY, the company opened a second distribution center (DC) and added more vendors and products. Wegmans had been running its first DC with a customized mainframe application, but knew this 25-year old technology couldn’t support its expansion plans. Wegmans chose to replace this mainframe replenishment technology with Prescient’s on-demand system.

“We had great results when we used Prescient for our first 200 vendors. Forecast accuracy increased by over 100%, days of supply decreased by 25%, and service levels rose,” said Tom Adelsberger, merchandising systems manager at Wegmans.
