Mack Trucks Inc has made available the S582 axle, second in a series of new, lightweight cast-iron axles for the vocational truck market. The new S582 is 114 pounds lighter than the cast-steel S58 axle it replaces, yet provides the same 58,000-lb rating.

Like its counterpart-the S462 vocational axle-the S582 uses a cast ductile iron housing with induction-hardened spindles designed for use with Mack top-mounted double reduction carriers. Both axles are produced by combining nodular ductile iron with advanced foundry iron casting technologies.
