More than 22,000 individual United States trucking firms are offered by Transportation Technical Services (TTS) in the new 1,720-page National Motor Carrier Directory (NMCD). More than 7,400 toll-free and 18,500 fax numbers are included. The 2002 edition reflects firms with 1.1 million trucks and tractors, 1.9 million trailers, plus $169.4 billion in revenue. More than 2,400 companies are new to the edition.

TTS has developed a new Internet program accessible at www.fleetseek.com. In a 24/7 online environment, a user can access detailed profiles on more than 63,000 for-hire and private fleets as well as owner-operators. Additions, deletions, and enhancements are posted nightly.

To qualify for inclusion, carriers must file a current annual report with the Department of Transportation or state Public Utility Commission, respond to a four-page mail survey, or answer researchers' questions by phone.

Each profile offers chief executive officer name and title, headquarters address, motor carrier and DOT number, Standard Carrier Alpha Code, revenues, specific number of trucks, tractors, and trailers owned or leased, as well as commodities transported — all identified by company.

The print directory is available for $395 (US funds) including 12 months of Internet access and daily updates. All the companies or any part of the file is available on CD-ROM (as few as 1,500 companies) at added cost. Firms that opt for the entire database may also download from the Internet for 12 months.
