Santa Claus arrived in Jackson MS for the 2001 Christmas season aboard an 18-wheeler filled with gifts collected by employees of KLLM Transport Services for distribution by Stewpot Community Services. While Santa visited with the children in Stewpot's Neighborhood Tutoring Program, the gifts of food, toys, stockings, and winter coats were unloaded by KLLM and Stewpot representatives.
KLLM employees kicked off the project at their annual family day event in October 2001, collecting among themselves as well as inviting customers and vendors to join their efforts.
Joining KLLM were The Kroger Co, Fresh Express, and local companies Southern Tire Sales and Utility Trailers of Mississippi. According to Nancy Dennis, food services director for Stewpot, KLLM's donation of food was used to supply 400 holiday meal baskets and to prepare daily meals at the Stewpot kitchen to feed Jackson's homeless and hungry.
