SCS Transportation Inc has announced that its third-quarter revenue, operating income, and net income increased over the prior year's results. SCS, parent company of both Saia Inc and Jevic Transportation, had revenues of $211.5 million for the quarter, a 5.2% gain; operating income of $11.2 million, up 37.8%; and net income of $5.1 million, a 28.1% advance.

Revenue at Saia was $134.3 million in the third quarter, compared with $127.6 million a year earlier. Third-quarter operating income for Saia was $8.1 million, a 24.2% climb from $6.5 million a year earlier. Saia's third-quarter operating ratio was 94.0%, an improvement from 94.9% a year ago.

At Jevic, third-quarter revenue was $77.2 million, versus $73.6 million a year earlier. Operating income was $3.8 million, compared with $1.9 million in third-quarter 2002. Its operating ratio in the 2003 quarter was 95.1% compared with 97.5% a year earlier.
