Detroit Diesel Corp's flagship Series 60 heavy-duty diesel engine was recently recognized by Diesel Power Magazine as the number-two-ranked “Best Diesel Engine Ever” on a list compiled by the publication. The number-one ranking went to the first working diesel engine made by Rudolph Diesel, who is considered the father of the modern diesel engine.

Since its launch in 1987, Detroit Diesel has manufactured more than 850,000 Series 60 engines. The engine was the first heavy-duty diesel engine with fully integrated electronic controls, says the company.
