Adams, maker of Dentyne, Trident, and Halls products, is crediting its partnership with Exel for establishing a speed-to-market advantage for the company's recent national product launch of the Body Smarts line of snacks.
In support of the product launch, Exel managed the warehousing and inventory of the Body Smarts line, which included performing regular quality assurance tests from temperature-controlled holding areas. Exel worked with a temperature-controlled pool point distribution network to ensure product integrity during the movement of Body Smarts products to consumer outlets across the United States.
Exel provides its supply chain and quality control solutions from a 145,000-square-foot facility in New Kingstown PA. From this facility, the Body Smarts line of fruit chew bars undergo a graining process inside a 33,000-sq-ft “hot room,” where the temperature is kept constant at 80° F until the product reaches a soft and chewy consistency.
Exel associates conduct quality assurance tests to determine when the fruit chew bars are fully grained. Another product, a crunchy, chocolate-covered bar, is stored and prepared for shipping in a room that is kept at a constant 65° F.
Temperature-controlled trucks ship the Body Smarts products out of New Kingstown and into stores across the nation through the pool point distribution network.
