In downtown Saint Paul MN's Rice Park, while Winter Carnival ice sculptors etched frozen creations, Cub Foods unveiled its own piece of art work. Inspired by Cub's recent Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank Round-Up program, this was no ordinary ice carving: a donation check worth $75,000 was frozen inside.
Fortunately, the Vulcan Fire King and Prime Minister were on hand to provide some assistance. After charging in on their fire truck, blowtorches in hand, the leaders of the Vulcan Krewe released Second Harvest Heartland's check from within the frozen sculpture.
The donation was raised in Cub Foods' Round-Up Program. During October, Cub customers were asked to “round up” their grocery bills to the next dollar, with the donation benefiting Second Harvest Heartland. Cub matched its customers' donations 2-to-1, resulting in a donation that will provide the amount needed to distribute 375,000 meals to Minnesotans.
