Marten Transport, Mondovi WI, cites an improved truckload operating environment and strong equipment utilization in predicting second quarter 2002 net income in the 63 to 68 cents per share range. Marten’s second quarter ends June 30, 2002. These results follow net income of 46 cents per share for the second quarter 2001 and 16 cents per share for the first quarter of 2002. Marten says the earnings growth is the result of a modest, but encouraging, increase in freight demand along with aggressive cost control. The Marten fleet totals 1,946 tractors and 2,719 53-ft trailers. Final results for the second quarter 2002 are to be published July 18, 2002.
