Effective January 1,2003, the Acklie Companies, Lincoln NE, will consolidate operations of its Shaffer Trucking and Sunflower Carriers divisions into a single refrigerated motor carrier under the name Shaffer Trucking, extending 65 years of continuous operation under that name. The combined operation will have access to 2,700 refrigerated trailers. The company will maintain major terminals in York NE, Sunflower’s home, and in New Kingstown PA, Shaffer headquarters. The new carrier will coordinate activity closely with Crete Carrier Corporation, Lincoln NE, one of two dry van operations within the Acklie Companies. In total the Acklie Companies operate 5,500 tractors and 13,000 trailers.
