The International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses and the International Association for Cold Storage Construction recently published the Guide to Effective Warehouse Design, Maintenance, and Modernization.

The International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) and the International Association for Cold Storage Construction (IACSC) recently published the Guide to Effective Warehouse Design, Maintenance, and Modernization.

This publication was produced through collaboration between the two organizations. Both IARW and IACSC are also core partners of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), which represents all major industries engaged in temperature-controlled logistics.

The guide outlines best practices in maintaining, modernizing, and designing a temperature-controlled facility. In addition to refrigerated warehouse operators the guide is intended to be a resource for contractors, engineers, and designers. It is also written for anyone new to cold storage industry, as part of the mission of both IARW and IACSC to educate younger generations.

Chapters deal with topics such as design, maintenance, modernization, structures, walls, floors, roofs, refrigeration, doors, lighting, material handling, batteries and chargers, fire prevention, racking systems, dock equipment, electrical systems, and automated systems.

A joint IARW-IACSC committee was formed in 2010 to write and review the guide, which is an update of a previous publication: the IARW Maintenance and Modernization Manual.

Members of IARW and IACSC have access to a complimentary electronic copy of the guide, available at www.gcca.org. Members and non-members may purchase a hard copy of the guide. To purchase, contact [email protected] or +1-703 373-4300.
