SmartWatt Energy Inc recently completed a LED lighting retrofit at Americold’s temperature-controlled storage facility in Allentown PA.
The project produces higher-quality light and reduces lighting-related energy consumption by 1,064,000 kilowatt-hours. This is equivalent to saving carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from 82,424 gallons of gasoline consumed or the carbon sequestered by 18,852 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
Given SmartWatt Energy’s emphasis on preservation of the environment, Americold selected SmartWatt Energy as a partner in reducing energy consumption.
“We pride ourselves on custom designing energy-efficiency solutions for our customers that not only save energy, but provide a high return on investment as well,” said Tarek El-Gohary, vice-president of East Coast operations for SmartWatt Energy. “This project allows Americold to operate more efficiently; we’re happy to help it exceed its sustainability goals.”
Americold partnered with SmartWatt Energy’s Wilkes-Barre PA office for the Allentown project. Previoulsy in April, SmartWatt Energy completed LED lighting retrofit projects at Americold’s Rochelle IL and Victorville CA facilities. SmartWatt Energy teams will be upgrading five more Americold facilities, all slated for completion by June 2011.
Based in Atlanta GA, Americold owns and operates more than 182 temperature-controlled warehouses in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, China, Argentina, and Canada with a total capacity of more than 1.1 billion cubic feet of storage.
