An Arkansas-based company that provides temperature-controlled warehouse and transportation services to various industries plans to construct a new cold storage and distribution center in Joplin MO. This capital investment of $14 million is expected to create 52 new local jobs.

Missouri Gov Jay Nixon helped break ground for the new 150,000-square-foot facility for Don’s Cold Storage, a company headquartered in Rogers AR. The governor was joined at the ceremony at the Joplin/Webb City Industrial Park by company officials, as well as community leaders.

“Through consistent fiscal discipline, holding the line on taxes and supporting local communities like Joplin, we’ve created a climate where businesses are investing in Missouri and creating jobs,” said Nixon. “As a result, companies like this are choosing Missouri as the place to create new jobs, grow their business, and move our economy forward.”

Don’s Cold Storage provides temperature-controlled warehouse and transportation services, including blast freezing and cold and dry storage, to industries in the continental United States as well as product export services worldwide. The company chose to build its first facility outside Arkansas in the Joplin area.

To assist Don’s Cold Storage in moving forward with its growth plans, the company could be eligible for a strategic economic incentive package from the state of Missouri if it meets job creation and investment criteria of each program.

The September 2012 state jobs report shows that Missouri’s unemployment rate fell to 6.9%—its lowest rate since December 2008. The state’s unemployment rate has now remained below the national unemployment rate for 37 consecutive months. Missouri added 2,500 new jobs during September, bringing the year-to-date total of new jobs to 24,700. Combined, the number of new jobs for 2012-to-date and all of 2011 comes to more than 46,000.
