MD Logistics has expanded its operations with a 55,000-square-foot facility in Reno NV to meet the needs of its growing customer base. This new facility will operate as an Food and Drug Administration-registered, pharmaceutical-grade warehouse. Capabilities will include controlled room temperature and cold chain storage and distribution services. MDL currently operates two facilities used for retail and pharmaceutical goods distribution in Plainfield IN.
With the addition of the Reno distribution center, MDL’s facilities are now within a 24-hour drive of 80% of the US population, increasing the speed at which goods will flow to market.
Mark Sell, president of MDL, said, “MD Logistics’ new state of the art Reno distribution site will allow us to continue to improve our supply chain execution, by providing improved efficiencies for the expanding West Coast customer base. With the addition of our Reno facility, we provide our growing pharmaceutical cold chain and retail clients both contingency and cost savings.”
The expansion to Reno is expected to create about 20 new jobs ranging from warehouse personnel to managers and supervisors. MDL has already relocated a key group of managers to get the Reno facility up and running, and will have the facility fully staffed in 2012.
Reno’s selection was due to its strong transportation infrastructure (air, rail, and Interstate) and its close proximity to large West Coast markets.
“Reno offers an excellent strategic location, a readily available workforce, and a cost-effective business climate,” said Sell. “It will allow us to continue to grow with both our existing customer base as well as attract new opportunities that require West Coast distribution services and expertise.”
Adding to its third-party logistics service offerings, MDL will continue its strategic partnership with global freight forwarding partner Seko Worldwide, and will be operating Seko Worldwide–Reno out of this facility.
