Millard Refrigerated Services has announced the expansion of its distribution center in Attalla AL after the signing of a multi-year contract with a national food manufacturer.
The refrigerated warehousing and distribution services company’s construction unit designed and built the new space. It added 16 employees during construction and is adding seven more now that it is completed.
Millard added 110,000 square feet to the facility’s existing 197,000 square feet for a total of 307,000 square feet. The new space includes 22 truck doors, raising the building’s total number of doors to 51, and there are two new rail doors for a total of 10. Also added were a mechanic’s shop for forklifts and other systems, as well as a conference room.

The Attalla facility, which originally opened in 1991, features a two-stage ammonia refrigeration system, five blast freezers with a combined capacity of 520,000 pounds daily, equipment to handle all varieties of frozen and refrigerated products, and automated order pick services. Located within a few hours of most of the southeastern United States, the building also has exporting and packaging services and a USDA-approved inspection room.
