US Foods has announced the purchase of New City Packing Company, a supplier of quality steaks and fresh-cut portion meats to restaurants and clients across the United States. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Founded in 1884, New City Packing Co serves more than 400 customers and operates a 60,000-square-foot distribution warehouse and meat-cutting facility in Aurora IL. To more efficiently serve its clientele, this larger, more modern facility will become the new site of US Foods’ Stock Yards Chicago. The current Stock Yards Chicago location will remain open into September 2012.
“Stock Yards has provided the highest quality steaks and chops to America’s top restaurants for nearly 120 years,” said David Norton, executive vice-president, Stock Yards. “The addition of the New City Packing Co business and meat-cutting operation will expand our customer base and greatly increase efficiencies.”
David Aardema, president of New City Packing Co, will be joining Stock Yard Chicago as general manager.
“I look forward to joining the Stock Yards Chicago team to help ensure a smooth transition for New City customers,” he said. Aardema added that New City customers will now have access to a broader array of products and services than ever before through US Foods.
The Stock Yards Chicago location is one of 13 Stock Yards facilities operating across the nation.
