Naumes Fruit Gifts announced that it donated three million pounds of fresh fruit to Feeding America and its member network in 2009. To date, the Naumes family has donated more than 10 million pounds of fresh fruit to this charity.
A large portion of those donations came through the Naumes Family’s Donate Fruit commitment: For every fruit gift purchased at www.naumesfruitgifts.com, the family matches it—pound for pound—with a donation of fresh fruit to food banks that feed hungry families. Donate Fruit grew out of the Naumes family’s commitment to fight hunger, expand on generations of giving, and promote charitable donations by others.
“Our network food banks are calling us every day, telling us that demand for emergency food is higher than it has ever been in our history,” said Vicki Escarra, president and chief executive officer of Feeding America. “The Naumes family’s generosity is invaluable, helping Feeding America’s 200 food banks serve the more than five million people who seek relief weekly to help feed themselves and their families.”
More than 100 years ago, the Naumes family began growing fruit in Oregon. They have expanded into California and Washington, where they grow, harvest, and sell fruit to major retailers nationwide. Naumes is one of the largest growers of pears in the United States.
Feeding America network members supply food to more than 37 million Americans each year, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors. Serving the entire United States, more than 200 member food banks support 63,000 agencies that address hunger in all of its forms.
