Representatives of more than 30 produce supply chain companies have been chosen to serve on the steering committee of the Produce Traceability Initiative. Cathy Green, chief operating officer of Food Lion LLC, will chair the steering committee.
The Produce Marketing Association (PMA), Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA), and United Fresh Produce Association launched the initiative in October. This industry-led effort aims to improve traceability throughout the supply chain.
Companies approved to serve on the steering committee include these foodservice buyers: Amerifresh, Applebee’s International, Markon Cooperative Inc, McDonald’s, Pro*Act, Sysco Corp, and US Foodservice.
Retail buyers on the committee are: Food Lion, W Newell & Co (Supervalu), H-E-B, The Kroger Co, Loblaws, Safeway Stores Inc, Schnuck Markets Inc, Wal-Mart Stores Inc, and Wegmans Food Markets.
Produce suppliers on the committee include: AEPQ (Quebec Apple Packers), B C Tree Fruits Ltd, Ballantine Produce Co Inc, C H Robinson Worldwide Inc, Dole Food Co Inc, Domex Superfresh Growers, Driscoll’s, Duda Farm Fresh Foods Inc, Fresh Express Inc, Fresh Innovations LLC, Frontera Produce Ltd, Naturipe Farms LLC, The Oppenheimer Group, Pandol Brothers Inc, Ready Pac Produce, River Ranch Fresh Foods LLC, and Tanimura & Antle.
The steering committee’s first meeting will take place Jan 9, 2008, in Atlanta GA.
