OnAsset Intelligence Inc and Envirotainer have announced a strategic partnership to advance Envirotainer’s air cargo containers, RKN e1 and RAP e2. The containers will be equipped with real-time data collection and GPS tracking availability throughout transit using OnAsset’s patented SENTRY FlightSafe communications platform.

The RKN e1 and RAP e2 active containers offer reliable temperature control, based on compressor cooling and electric heating technologies for products in global air transportation. Currently, data on the condition of products inside is gathered 24/7 but is not available for review until the containers reach specific destinations. By incorporating the patented, FAA-compliant FlightSafe communications platform from OnAsset, the RKN e1 and RAP e2 containers will transmit location, condition, and temperature-sensitive information anytime the containers are on the ground.

This way, Envirotainer’s customers have immediate access to quality data and the peace of mind regarding product condition throughout transit. Partners within the active cold chain network will also have real-time condition alerts on the container to facilitate proactive response procedures, maintenance awareness, and improved return procedures.

SENTRY FlightSafe is a wireless tracking device platform that includes multiple sensors such as temperature, humidity, pressure, shock, location, and vibration with an additional patented intelligence feature, FlightSafe. This feature enables the device to use multiple modes of sensing and proprietary logic to automatically turn off its wireless transmitting radios to ensure safe and FAA-compliant operation during flight.

Envirotainer will test the platform during 2013 and 2014 with a number of pilot customers in order to develop a fully working prototype and to obtain required approval and certification. The new technology will be deployed throughout the Envirotainer fleet in 2014 and 2015. Once it is fully deployed, Envirotainer’s current services, such as Active Container Data (ACD) and Transport Evaluation, will be fed with both position and sensory data. A new set of information services will also be developed by Envirotainer in order to strengthen user ability to secure and verify QA and supply chain performance.
