Detroit Diesel Corporation has delivered its 100,000th DD platform engine to Southern Refrigerated Transport (SRT), a subsidiary of Covenant Transportation Group.
The engine, a Detroit DD15 installed in a Freightliner Cascadia truck, was presented at a special ceremony at SRT’s headquarters in Texarkana AR.
Longtime customer Covenant Transportation Group, which besides SRT includes Star Transportation and Covenant Transport, is one of the largest truckload carriers in the United States. More than 70% of the company’s fleet consists of Freightliner tractors with Detroit engines.
“Our customers rely on Covenant to perform at the highest level of service every time, which is why we need our partners to deliver,” said David Hughes, senior vice-president and corporate treasurer for Covenant Transportation Group. “Detroit engines help us achieve our service commitments at the highest of levels.”
Because Covenant Transportation Group is a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay partner, Hughes also said the DD15’s robust performance coupled with its excellent fuel efficiency is ideal for meeting the company’s pledge to decrease fuel consumption and emissions.
Mark Lampert, senior vice-president, sales and marketing for Daimler Trucks North America, said, “We are proud of our DD Platform of heavy-duty engines, and pleased that SRT and all of the Covenant Transportation Group companies have achieved excellent efficiency and performance with our engines.”
