Choptank Transport has opened its newest regional office in Denver CO with Brian Carr taking the helm as regional office manager. In 2010, Preston MD-based Choptank opened its first satellite office in Franklin TN, and a year later, an Atlanta GA office was launched.
“We have the right person driving the bus, and the agricultural area of Colorado has always been a great place for shipping,” said James Lee, vice-president of brokerage services and legal affairs, who heads the regional office expansion. “Brian has over 20 years of industry knowledge and a great deal of experience on both the brokerage-sales side and the brokerage-transportation side; he is the ideal person to help grow the Choptank brand and better serve our customers in the area.”
Carr has worked for Schneider National Inc, RWI Transportation, and M2 Logistics. With a background in mostly dry-van logistics, he has seen potential in the refrigerated transportation market and plans to use Choptank’s expertise and reputation in this area to help grow the business.
Choptank also recently kicked off its new hiring initiative, “Rock-It Higher.”
The company expanded its 8,000-square-foot headquarters in December 2010 with an additional 9,000 square feet and has hired more than 40 new employees since the completion of the new building annex. Within the next few months, however, the Rock-it Hire campaign is designed to accelerate hiring and create another 50 positions in the Preston office, as well as several in the company’s Atlanta and Nashville TN locations.
New employees at Choptank go through an in-house training course that prepares them with supply-chain management tools and familiarizes them with Choptank’s own TMS (transportation management system) and other resources.
