According to the report the global refrigerated sea transportation market is highly consolidated, and is dominated by these vendors: CMA CGM, Maersk Line, MSC, NYK Line, and Seatrade Reefer Chartering.

One of the fast-trending factor captivating the refrigerated sea transportation vendors is the shift toward container leasing. Exporters and vendors in the market are acquiring containers for rent instead of purchasing them to minimize the capital cost involved. The exporters can procure reefer containers from container leasing companies. There are numerous companies venturing into container leasing and providing asset financing solutions.

The top five vendors for refrigerated sea transportation:

•CMA CGM was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Marseille, France. The company operates globally as a container shipping company. It provides its services on 170 shipping routes and manages shipping-related activities for 396 vessels. They also offer XXL cargo solutions for heavy equipment such as turbines, engines, and factory components.

As of December 2014, the company employed 18,249 people. It generated an annual revenue of US $16.74 billion in FY2014 and US $15.90 billion in FY2013.

•Maersk Line is the world’s leading container shipping company, which was founded in 1928 and is headquartered at Copenhagen, Denmark. The company is engaged in global ocean transportation and is a division operating under the A P Møller–Maersk Group. It offers its services through six brands: Maersk Line, MCC Transport (Intra-Asia), Mercosul (Brazil), Safmarine (Africa), Seago Line (Intra-Europe), and SeaLand (Intra-Americas).

An operational network of 374 offices in 116 nations supports the company. In FY2014, the net sales generated for the year was US $27.35 billion.

•MSC was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Among the leading providers of container shipping service, the company also offers shipment tracking, ISF (importer security filing), and tracking services that allow customers to have easy access to the bill of lading number according to the US customs.

MSC has 37,500 employees and 480 offices worldwide. The company has a presence in the Americas, APAC, and EMEA.

•NYK Line was founded in 1885 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Its operations consist of global logistics centered on marine transportation business, terminal and harbor transport, cruises, real estate, and shipping-related services. The company established its branch offices in Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, and Fukuoka, in Japan and in Taiwan, China.

In FY2015, the company generated a revenue of US $21.86 billion. It has about 33,520 employees in all its offices.

•Seatrade Reefer Chartering was founded in 1951 and is headquartered in the Netherlands. The company offers ship management services for reefer vessels and custom-made ships for ocean transport of perishable goods and container vessels. It offers reefer vessels and services for specialized cargo and ensures optimum care of perishable and frozen cargo.
