US Foods breaks ground on California distribution center
US Foods, one of the nation’s leading foodservice companies, recently broke ground on a 355,000-square-foot distribution center in McClellan Park CA.
The facility is expected to open at the end of 2020 and will support US Foods’ commitment to helping restaurant and food service operators across the Northern California region succeed, the company said. To celebrate the official kickoff of the new facility, US Foods invited company leaders, government officials, local customers and other members of the community to the ceremony.
“We are excited about the opportunities this state-of-the-art facility will bring to the region as we continue to showcase our commitment to helping independent restaurant operators across Northern California succeed,” said Bernie Orsini, US Foods’ area president for Northern California. “This is an important investment made possible by the dedication of our US Foods leadership in partnership with the Greater Sacramento Economic Council, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and Sacramento County, and we’d like to extend our gratitude for their ongoing support.”
The facility will house thousands of foodservice products, as well as a meat cutting facility and fleet operations, US Foods said. Additional highlights include a full-service demonstration kitchen and training center for customer product demonstrations and recipe innovation, and an interactive technology center where US Foods customers can learn about the company’s industry-leading, web-based business solutions.
In addition, the facility is designed to meet rigorous LEED Silver certification requirements and will incorporate energy and environmental improvements, such as energy-efficient refrigeration systems, energy-saving LED lighting, optimized HVAC systems and water-saving landscaping.
