Food wholesaler chooses Ryder to comply with London ULEZ
Ryder is supporting Polish food wholesaler Spizarnia with its first vehicle contract hire agreement for the supply of Euro 6 trucks.
“Usually, I buy 5-year-old vehicles on the used truck market, but with the London Ultra Low Emission Zone coming into force earlier this year, it was proving very difficult to get ahold of second-hand Euro-6 vehicles,” said Przemyslaw Duklas, director of Spizarnia in the UK.
The new vehicles are 26-tonne (28.7-US ton) DAF CF330s with Solomon bodies and Carrier Transicold refrigeration units, and are being used to deliver to customers in London.
“Ryder was easy to work with, competitive with its pricing, and assisted with our specific operational requirements,” Duklas said.
Due to the weight of the pallets Spizarnia delivers, Duklas required the new vehicles to have 9-tonne (9.9-ton) front axles, instead of the usual 8-tonne axles.
“Our system is fully computerized, so we know the weight of our pallets, and from experience, it is essential that the trucks have a 9-tonne front axle, because otherwise we cannot use the entire loading area,” Duklas said. “All the weight would be over the front axle and we would have to move the load back from the front.”
Duklas said Ryder also impressed with it service network. Spizarnia signed a sales and service contract for its existing fleet at two of its cross-dock facilities.
“Ryder’s London service center is in Park Royal, just five minutes from our London cross-dock, and Ryder’s Manchester service center is also conveniently located,” Duklas said.
“Price-wise and service-wise, I am very happy I chose Ryder. Our account manager Melissa (Boshell) is very proactive and always there to help us with any issues.”
