Thanks to the fundraising efforts of several Florida high schoolers, Joshua’s Heart Foundation (JHF) has a new refrigerated delivery van the organization plans to use to distribute groceries to food-insecure communities.
JHF has worked to end hunger for 17 years, but previous efforts to provide fresh, high-quality produce were hampered by limited access to refrigerated delivery options. Now, thanks to a campaign spearheaded by JHF junior advisory board members Charlotte and Julia Krass, the non-profit is making major food deliveries this holiday season.
With the assistance of board member Sydney Bianco, the students raised more than $25,000 from local families, organizations, and businesses, including Milam’s Market. As part of the campaign, they designed and sold bracelets bearing JHF’s logo and tagline, “Stomp Out Hunger,” which JHF continues to sell to fund future needs.
“The excitement is palpable, and the shop is abuzz with pride,” said Joshua Williams, chief “changemaker” and founder. “We love seeing the sense of accomplishment our volunteers feel when they set a goal and achieve it in the name of service.
“As Charlotte, Julia and Sydney embark on the next leg of their personal growth, I am convinced this philanthropic journey will be a treasured lifelong memory.”
The foundation also expects the van to bring new opportunities to further serve the community and bring more relief to deserving residents throughout South Florida.
“We were humbled to be an integral part of this major milestone for Joshua’s Heart,” Charlotte and Julia Krass said. “A refrigerated van is a gamechanger when transporting perishable items. We’re glad to be a part of this effort and look forward to seeing the difference it makes for the movement.”
