Kenworth and Peterbilt truck users will receive up to an estimated 1% fuel economy advantage as parent Paccar becomes the first company to make a new, full synthetic axle lube standard on its Class 5 through 8 models in the US and Canada.

The Cognis Emgard FE 75W-90 lubricant provides performance advantages over both conventional and current synthetic lubricants, said Paccar officials. These include better operating performance, increased gear life, extended drain intervals, and all-season lubrication, all of which helps reduce maintenance and downtime.

In addition, the new axle lube promotes component life through improved fluid flow to protect gears in extreme cold conditions and withstand the stress from high temperatures.

The new lubricant technology has been thoroughly tested, the officials said. Results indicate up to a 1% fuel economy improvement, equivalent to approximately $900 annually, based on running 120,000 miles, getting 6 mpg, and fuel at $4.75 per gallon.
