amp Trillium LLC, the joint venture between ampCNG and Trillium CNG; and Champion Brands Inc (CBI) announced the first-ever public access compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station in northeast Florida is now open for business.
A grand opening event was held recently at the new station, which is at 9711 Mining Drive off of Highway 1 near the intersection of Interstates 295 and 95 in Jacksonville FL’s Southside Industrial Park.
Steve Josephs, director of engineering and co-founder of ampCNG, said, “We are very excited to open Jacksonville’s first CNG station and believe this will bring more CNG-fueled trucks to northern Florida. ampCNG is committed to providing heavy trucking fleets with convenient access to CNG and plans to open several more CNG stations across the country this year.”
Earl Benton, president/chief executive officer of the station’s host CBI, said, “amp Trillium is a great partner. This project is important not only to Jacksonville and our region, but also to the future of our economic viability and our goal of making Jacksonville the transportation and logistics hub of America. It also supports the Global Cities Initiative of increasing exports.”
The amp Trillium station is easily accessible for heavy-duty fleet trucks. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it uses a public access card reader system. This station includes two dual hose dispensers, allowing two semitrailers to fuel at the same time, and features Trillium CNG’s fast-fill hydraulic intensifier compressor.
CBI has begun replacing its diesel fleet with CNG trucks. The first wave of these trucks hit the road October 1, 2014, and the diesel fleet will be fully replaced with CNG by July 2017.
A Jacksonville-based malt beverage distributor servicing six northeast Florida counties, CBI currently represents 62 domestic and foreign breweries, four local craft breweries, and Red Bull (northeast Florida and 32 counties surrounding Savannah GA. This year marks its 30th business anniversary.
Based in Chicago IL, amp Trillium is building a nationwide network of CNG stations to supply major businesses and fleet operators. ampCNG is a member of the Department of Energy’s National Clean Fleets Partnership tasked to reduce the nation’s dependency on imported oil.
